Access 60 Ultralight Hiking Pack

Description

For those looking for a more versatile ultralight pack, the Access 60 is the obvious choice. This pack takes our Overland 60 and adds an access zip to the back panel of the pack. This allows for items packed into the bottom of the pack to be easily accessed without having to open the roll top and rummage around. This feature makes the pack perfect for photographers who want to use a camera insert to keep their camera gear organised, for people travelling who want to be able to use their ultralight pack more like a traditional backpacking pack, and for use in snowy environments where getting into the bottom of your pack without exposing all your kit to the snow is paramount.

For Ultralight and Canyon Packs

Your torso length, not your back length, determines your pack size.

For 35-40L Packs:

Harness Size (Unisex)

Back Length

Small

Up to 43 cm

Medium

43-48 cm

Large

48 cm and above

For 45-90L Packs:

Harness Size (Unisex)

Back Length

Small

Up to 43 cm

Medium

43-51 cm

Large

51 cm and above

How to Measure Back Length:

  1. Locate the top of your hipbone (pelvic crest) on the side of your body. (Note: the pelvic crest slopes down at the front – but we are interested in the location of the highest point of your pelvis).

  2. Approximate the top of your hipbone in your lumbar region, on your spine. Wrap the tape measure horizontally from the top of your hipbone to the spine to confirm this position if required. Make a note of this location.

  3. Locate your C7 vertebrae. This is the highest bony protrusion on the back of your neck and is roughly in line with where your trapezius meets your neck. Make a note of this location.

  4. Measure the length between your C7 vertebrae and the location you found on your lumbar spine in step 2.

Fantastic! So many great features, well-thought out ultralight pack

I recently completed the Overland Track in Tasmania with the Access 60 UL pack & the Expedition 8 UL Hood. My ultralight Whippa setup made this challenging & technical hike absolutely doable. Firstly, I wanted this pack because it weighed more than 1kg lighter than the other women's specific pack I was going to take, and when your pack ends up between 18-20 kgs that makes a huge difference. I also wanted it because it's Aussie made & hey it looks great. Love the grey/tangerine orange combo I chose, I get lots of questions & positive comments on the pack. The padded back is super comfy & the access zipper is perfect. On this trek I used this zipper mainly to access my water bladder as all the stuff in my pack was within a liner. So easy to see if it needs refilling & to remove, much easier than the setup in other packs where you have to pull out the whole bladder. The materials seem very strong & durable, I just had to be a little careful with the back access zipper. The outside pockets are brilliant especially the large front waterproof stash pocket, I could fit heaps in there. The 8L hood was a useful add on for items I needed quick access to like rain gear or to pack a wet tent fly. The large stretchy side pockets are also great for stuff like drink bottles, hat, gloves. The side compression straps easily held my hiking poles when I wasn't using them. The hip belt with more pockets, shoulder straps, buckles, load lifters are all easily adjustable & practical. The main compartment easily fit our Mont Moondance Ex tent, clothes, sleeping bag, mat, shared food etc basically all the gear I needed to hike/camp for 6 days 5 nights. Overall, even though I've got crappy shoulders, I found this pack comfortable walking long distances with the weight I had to carry. It really is a terrific well thought out pack that really helps you organise your gear. I was so happy with this pack I've now ordered the 40L too!
